Artful Aging on the EastSide

Artful Ageing is an annual 6 month art project, delivered by EastSide Arts and supported by Arts Council of Northern Ireland, aimed at breaking down isolation, loneliness and promoting well-being amongst older residents of east Belfast.  Taking place in venues around east Belfast, the free drop-in workshops have included craft, creative writing, interactive music workshops, ceramics, watercolour, digital fabrication, printmaking and more. Seniors that would like to try their hand at a new creative activity are warmly invited to attend one of the taster workshops.

This programme runs from January-June each year and new programme information can be found in the "What's On" section in December.

Radio Drama for Carers

An innovative 10-week project brought 8 carers from east Belfast together with writer, Jan Carson and musician, Nick Boyle to create two short radio dramas based on the experience of being a carer.  The project also developed a unique toolkit to create opportunities for carers and organisations to share their experiences.  The Artful Ageing toolkit, delivered by EastSide Arts and supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Arts & Older People Programme, provides a platform for conversations about being and supporting carers.

The HOME Project

The annual Home Project in association with Terra Nova Productions offers 4 emerging artists living in Belfast the chance to take part in a mentorship programme which focuses on developing their practice as intercultural artists.  The artists receive one to one mentorship with an artist established in their chosen artform whether that be; dance, drama, visual art or music as well as some basic training in the practicialities of facilitating a community workshop and putting together a showcase event.  As a part of this project the artists get the oppotunity to work with east Belfast based community groups to discuss diversity within their community with the aim of creating a new art piece with that community group.

This project runs from October-March each year and applications for artists to get involved will be available to download soon.

EastSide Arts Festival Fun Day

The annual EastSide Arts Festival Fun Day is a celebration for all ages and is the perfect way to officially start the EastSide Arts Festival.  This community day includes craft stalls, live music, treasure trails, circus performances, dance, community games, workshops and so much more, there really is something for everyone.  This year the theme was that of a Street Party and C.S. Lewis Square came alive with colour.

The Festival Fun Day takes place in C.S. Lewis Square on the first Saturday of the annual EastSide Arts Festival and is a free event celebrating arts and the community of east Belfast.

A street party wouldn't be the same without bunting so this Summer EastSide Arts invited evryone in east Belfast get involved in the EastSide Street Party. We asked community groups, organisations, businesses and individuals to help decorate C.S. Lewis Square with bunting, yarnbombing and banners to make the square come alive with colour on the day.

We were overwhelmed with the number of people who got involved, the amount of bunting we collected and how amazing it all looked on the day.  A huge thanks goes out to all of the individuals and grooups who made and donated bunting;
