Green Book (2018) with discussion

14 Aug 2020
Strand Arts Centre, 152-154 Holywood Road, Belfast, BT4 1NY

With a recent increase in the media about Black Lives Matter, this screening of Green Book, the 2018 Best Picture Oscar® winner, launches the Strand's new Global Film Club. The screening will be accompanied by a discussion surrounding the themes and legacy of the film.

A working-class, Italian-American bouncer becomes chauffeur for an African-American classical pianist on his concert tour.

Set against the backdrop of a country grappling with the Civil Rights Movement, Green Book was inspired by a true friendship that transcended race, class and the 1962 Mason-Dixon line.

Global Film Screenings - regular cultural film teamed up with an introduction, Q&A or discussion.  A platform to champion films from different cultures in a relaxed and informative way.  Arts and culture partners are invited to widen discussion and to share experiences.  This will create discussion around themes in the films, and to make connections or comparisons to Northern Ireland.

Preparing for this event, Strand took part in a live broadcast with JoinHer Network and some special guests.
