A barber (Ralph Richardson) commits petty theft which leads to him becoming involved in blackmail and murder...

Directed by east Belfast-born Brian Desmond Hurst, based on the novel by F. L. Green (Odd Man Out) who had lived in Belfast. A fantastic early example of British film noir.

With special discussion following the screening with filmmaker and broadcaster Brian Henry Martin and Hurst's family members, Allan Esler Smith and Caitlin Smith.

"... an intense psychological thriller of the first order." Re-viewing British Cinema

"... the film does reflect with candour a scrap of low life in the greasy and turgid back streets of an English shipbuilding town." Motion Picture Herald
