An Evening With The Gertrude Star Flute Band and “Billy Boy”

Harland & Wolff Staff Club – Monday 13th June at 7pm

Join us for a special fundraising night with the Gertrude Star Flute Band and John Travers as ‘Billy Boy’ – an evening of music and drama to raise funds to take this brilliant one-man show to the Edinburgh Festival!

‘Billy Boy’, by east Belfast writer Rosemary Jenkinson, was inspired by interviews with young bonfire builders. Directed by Matthew Faris and performed by the amazing John Travers; ‘Aaron is looking after the biggest and most controversial boney in the East and is determined to fight the council’s ruling. The problem is, if he gets into any more trouble, he might have to pack his bags.’

We have the opportunity to take this brilliant new drama to Edinburgh this summer at the fantastic Gilded Balloon venue and this event is part of the fundraising effort. The performers are giving their time for free and all donations received will help us get one step closer to sharing ‘Billy Boy’ and the story of east Belfast bonefire culture with the wider world. This is a Belfast story not often told – often mis-told. Help us change that!
