Family Fun at EastSide Arts Festival

To hear ‘What are we doing today?’ is almost as annoying as ‘When are we going to be there??’ to the busy parent during the long school holidays. By the beginning of August you’ll be halfway there and probably have run out of answers! EastSide Arts has thought about this and made a plan for all those families running out of ideas – and even better, it’s on your doorstep and mostly free!

C.S. Lewis Square

The EastSide Arts Festival runs from 2-12 August, across east Belfast, and has been designed with families in mind. The first weekend of the Festival (Saturday 4 and Sunday 5August) is packed with family fun during the first EastSide Parkfest; C.S. Lewis Square on the Saturday from 12 – 3pm will be awash with colour and music and creativity as well as a Teddy Bears’ Picnic and treasure hunt, and if those children are still asking for more on Sunday, then a little further along the Greenway at Orangefield Park they will be entertained by the story of Woofle - the show about what it’s like to have a dog as your best friend - they can meet a dinosaur and some smaller exotic animals and if that’s not enough, Miss Shell the amazing circus mermaid will captivate them. Everything is free or priced for families, so no excuses.

EastSide Festival Fun Day - C.S.Lewis Square

On Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 August from 10am – 12pm, Belfast Circus will be spinning plates and juggling (sounds familiar!), spinning, hula hooping and having fun inside the circus Big Top at C.S. Lewis square – who wouldn’t be excited? It’s for the whole family and only costs £3 per person.

Circus Workshops for Families

Saturday 11 August at the Big Top sees the Northern Irish premiere of a show you don’t want to miss…you are invited to dress up and go wild as Big Fish Little Fish bring their internationally acclaimed family rave to east Belfast. This is one serious family activity that will bust the myth that once the children arrive it’s all about them! This is your chance to shine as you invade the dance floor to recapture your youth and surprise or even scare your children!

Going to the circus as a family is just one of those must do things…. who doesn’t remember what that was like as a child? Again, at C.S. Lewis Square, which is so easy to walk or cycle to from all across east Belfast, Tumble Circus will be performing their brilliant family shows on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 August. Featuring acrobatics, juggling and gravity-defying feats of daring they will provide lots of laughs and gasps of delight for the whole family.  A Family ticket – 2 adults and 2 children is just £30.

To round things off and deal with the aftermath of all this activity why not take the family down to the Maitri Studio on Saturday 11August (3 – 4pm) for some family yoga. Try it ….. it might just be the thing that unlocks a way of being together that takes the stress out of parenting.
