Older Audiences at EastSide Arts Festival

Calling all those wiser, slightly older women and men from the east – you have no excuses not to get involved in everything our EastSide Arts Festival has to offer between the 2nd – 12th August. We have carefully curated a host of affordable – and easily accessible – activities for older people that will keep you busy from morning to evening, should you so choose!

EastSide Festival Fun Day - C.S. Lewis Square

If you think it’s too far to go you can put your Smart Pass to good use!

They say it’s never too late for learning new skills and make new friends - you could spend an afternoon in our Big Top at CS Lewis Square learning how to spin plates and juggle with Belfast Community Circus or be reminded that you never forget how to ride a bike by joining the group cycle ride led by Sustrans along the Connswater Community Greenway, on Thursday 2nd of August.

Group Cycle Ride For Seniors

If you’re a local history buff, you might want to book yourself into one of the many talks and tours covering everything from the incredible Suffragette who lived briefly on the Newtownards Road to C.S. Lewis and from Gaelic east Belfast to Templemore School – you might even be able to add something to the stories!

The Road A Century On

Or, just relax in the iconic Strand Arts Centre, watching classic films G.I. Blues and The Court Jester at our special Silver Screening events. We are delighted to expand our Silver Screenings to Knocknagoney Community Centre for the first time, which will be showing the Oscar-winning fantasy ‘Cocoon’ with sweets and treats provided, of course.

Silver Screenings

Everyone loves a bit of nostalgia - The Swingtime Starlets are in town on the 2nd of August performing close-harmony renditions of songs from the 1940’s and 50’s at The Welder’s Social Club; whilst on Sunday 5th August, host Jan Carson brings you an evening of musical entertainment from Belfast Ukulele Jam and The Gathering Drum, with a quiz thrown in for good measure. This event is dementia friendly, free for seniors and has free transport for seniors groups - we want to make it as easy as possible for you to join us at this popular annual event.

Finally, if you have any time left, you could also squeeze in a visit to our Artful Ageing Exhibition which will be open to the public at The Arches Wellbeing & Treatment Centre throughout the Festival. Put your feet up and have a cuppa surrounded by the amazing art – including crochet, ceramics and digital fabrication - created by the older residents of east Belfast in our Artful Ageing workshops. Come away inspired and entertained, and maybe even signed up for next year…!
